Hypertension Clinic Summary – Connected Humanity Project (CHP)
During CHP’s two-day mission trip to the Dominican Republic in July 2025, community blood pressure screenings were conducted to assess hypertension risk and improve awareness of cardiovascular health. A total of 73 participants were screened, representing adults ages 22 to 77, with one adolescent participant included.
Key findings showed that while most participants had normal blood pressure readings (65.8%), more than one-third exhibited elevated or high blood pressure. Elevated readings were observed in 6.8% of participants, and 27.4% had high blood pressure. Notably, 60.3% of participants reported a prior diagnosis of hypertension, indicating a substantial existing disease burden.
Undiagnosed risk: 18 participants (24.7%) had elevated or high blood pressure without a known diagnosis, highlighting gaps in access to routine screening and care.
Monitoring gaps: Over half of participants reported checking their blood pressure less often than monthly, underscoring limited ongoing monitoring.
Overall, these findings emphasize a critical need for early detection, education, and sustained hypertension management within the community. The results reinforce CHP Inc.’s mission to provide essential screening services, health education, and preventive support to underserved populations, helping to reduce long-term cardiovascular risk.
Diabetes Risk Screening Summary – Connected Humanity Project (CHP)
During CHP’s two-day mission trip to the Dominican Republic in July 2025, capillary glucose screenings were conducted to assess diabetes risk and promote awareness of metabolic health. A total of 55 participants were screened, including adults aged 22 to 50.
Key findings indicated that nearly half of the participants had glucose levels outside the normal range. Normal glucose values were observed in 51% of participants, while 20% fell within the impaired (prediabetic) range and 29% had glucose levels consistent with diabetes. One in five participants (20%) reported a prior diagnosis of diabetes, reflecting a notable existing disease burden within the community.
Undiagnosed risk: 10 participants had elevated glucose levels without a known diagnosis, including 6 in the impaired range and 4 in the diabetic range, pointing to missed opportunities for early detection.
Monitoring gaps: The majority of participants (74.5%) reported checking blood glucose less often than monthly, indicating limited access to or utilization of routine monitoring.
Overall, these findings highlight a critical need for early screening, education, and sustained diabetes management within the community. The results reinforce CHP Inc.’s mission to provide diagnostic services, preventive education, and support to underserved populations, helping reduce the progression and long-term complications of diabetes.
Pediatric Dental Health Screening Summary – Connected Humanity Project (CHP)
During CHP’s two-day mission trip to the Dominican Republic in July 2025, pediatric dental examinations were conducted to assess the oral health status and identify unmet dental care needs among children. A total of 83 pediatric participants, ranging in age from 2 to 14 years, were included, with 82 dental exams completed.
Findings revealed a high burden of preventable and untreated dental conditions. Common diagnoses included plaque-induced gingivitis, rampant dental caries, irreversible pulpitis, periodontal and periapical abscesses, partial edentulism related to caries, malocclusion, and clear indications of poor home oral hygiene. These conditions reflect both limited access to routine dental care and gaps in preventive oral health education.
Unmet care needs: The presence of advanced caries, infections, and tooth loss in young children highlights delayed treatment and limited preventive services.
Care access gaps: More than half of participants reported dental visits less often than yearly, indicating inconsistent access to routine pediatric dental care.
Overall, these findings demonstrate a critical need for early dental intervention, preventive education, and ongoing oral health support within the pediatric population. The results reinforce CHP Inc.’s mission to deliver essential dental services, promote oral hygiene education, and improve long-term health outcomes for children in underserved communities.
